Why I Make Soap
A Good Bar of Soap started at my kitchen table in Mason City — one batch of cold-process soap and a stubborn belief that the things we use every day should be made with care.
Every bar is mixed, poured, cut, and cured by hand. No fillers, no shortcuts, no synthetic detergents. Just honest soap, the way it ought to be.

How It's Made
From Oil to Bar
Real soap takes time. Here's the slow, hands-on way every bar comes to life.

Blend the Oils
We start with skin-loving oils and butters — coconut, olive, shea — measured by hand in small batches.

Trace & Pour
Oils meet lye and reach ‘trace,’ then we fold in botanicals and pure essential oils and pour into the mold.

Cut & Stamp
After a day of setting, each loaf is hand-cut into bars and stamped with our mark.

Cure 4–6 Weeks
The bars rest and cure for four to six weeks, growing firm, mild, and long-lasting.
About Us
Our Story: Simply Better Suds
It started with a simple question: Why is it so hard to find a truly good bar of soap?
We aren't talking about the mass-produced, detergent-filled bars you find on supermarket shelves. We’re talking about the kind of soap that feels like a treat, smells like a dream, and leaves the planet as clean as your skin.
A Good Bar of Soap was born out of a kitchen-table obsession with the art of cold-process soap making. We wanted to strip away the synthetic fragrances and animal fats, replacing them with plant-based oils, rich butters, and a lot of patience.
What Makes it "Good"?
We believe "good" should be the standard, not the exception. For us, that means four non-negotiables:
• 100% Plant-Based: We love animals as much as we love great skin. You’ll never find honey, beeswax, or lard in our recipes—just pure, plant-powered goodness.
• Zero Synthetic Fragrances: We believe nature smells better. We never use "fragrance oils" or lab-created scents. Every aroma in our shop comes directly from pure essential oils and botanical ingredients.
• The Cold-Process Method: We do things the old-fashioned way. By curing our soap for weeks, we preserve the natural glycerin, resulting in a harder, longer-lasting bar with a creamy lather.
• Small-Batch Integrity: Every bar is poured, cut, and labeled by hand. If it’s not good enough for our own shower, it doesn't make it to yours.
